Pro-immigration protest in Burlington

Blogger David Vogel of The Cultural Report covered the pro-immigration protest in Burlington today. Here's part of his report

In an interview following the event, Lopez said, “These people need an opportunity to get out of the shadows.” Illegal immigrants pay taxes and are law-abiding citizens, he asserted. “We are a peaceful people and we obey the law, and we want to be here.”

However, Lopez said he supported the deportation of illegals who had been in the country for less than two years, if they were given “a decent, human way to go back to their countries.” When asked his position on border control, Lopez declared, without hesitation, “We have to close the border... For national security, we have to close the border.” His complaint is with efforts to deport or otherwise punish long-time residents who have already become part of American society, he said.
