Unborn victims of violence

The one-year anniversary of the Raleigh murder of Jenna Nielsen and her unborn son gives us a chance to highlight some recent comments from Nielsen's father, Kevin Blaine.

He's helping to lead the charge for an Unborn Victims of Violence Act.

• Beverly Perdue and Pat McCrory weigh in on a proposed North Carolina International Terminal at Southport. Both call for more study. Elizabeth Dole is seeking federal funds.

• The Washington Post's “The Fix” blog moves the Dole-Kay Hagan race up a notch on its lists of top 10 competitive Senate contests. Both candidates are making campaign appearances Saturday, Dole in front of an American Legion convention in Raleigh and Hagan at a Rockingham County breakfast and a Greensboro NAACP banquet.
